Making a positive difference in his patients’ lives is the driving force behind everything Dr. Bloom does

As a family-owned and operated small business, Bloom Orthodontics is built on relationships, trust, and the belief that every patient deserves thoughtful, individualized care from a team that truly knows them.
Dr. James Bloom’s path to orthodontics is rooted in both academic excellence and a genuine passion for helping others. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biophysics from Brigham Young University before receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He then spent four years practicing as a general dentist in Fort Myers, Florida, caring for patients in underserved communities.
He completed his specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where his research on 3D printing in orthodontics earned recognition from the American Association of Orthodontists. He is also board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics—an achievement that reflects his commitment to providing the highest level of care.
Dr. Bloom believes the best results come from consistent, personalized care with the same doctor and team—and he genuinely loves serving and being part of the Parker, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, and South Denver communities.

What inspired you to work in orthodontics? While I was in college, I realized I had two passions: art and science. I initially pursued art classes with the goal of applying to an animation program, but I soon recognized that I couldn’t build my ideal career on my love for art alone. As a result, I shifted my focus to science and changed my major to biophysics, where I developed a strong interest in biology, physics, and understanding how the human body works. Over time, I realized that orthodontics offered the perfect blend of my interests, allowing me to combine scientific knowledge with an eye for aesthetics to create beautiful, confident smiles.
How long have you been with Bloom Orthodontics, and what do you love most about working here? I founded Bloom Orthodontics in 2021 with the goal of treating patients in a comfortable, inviting environment while incorporating the latest technology and techniques into our care. I believe that autonomy is essential to achieving the highest level of results in dentistry and medicine, and having the ability to make patient-first decisions is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about your role? Many people may be surprised to learn that orthodontic practices owned by the practicing doctor are becoming increasingly rare. Today, many practices (especially in the Denver area) are owned by large corporations or private equity firms that often prioritize profit over personalized care. I love being both a small business owner and a doctor.
What’s your favorite part of seeing a patient’s smile transform? I love watching a patient’s face light up when they look in the mirror for the first time after getting their braces off or completing clear aligner treatment. It’s an incredibly rewarding moment.

Why is it meaningful to you to work in a practice that serves local families? Because of our location, we have the opportunity to treat patients from all over Douglas and Arapahoe counties. We get to know what’s happening in their schools, sports teams, and daily lives. My three children have attended local schools, so I often run into patients at school events, performances, and games. I truly enjoy living in the same community I serve.
How would you describe the Bloom experience to someone new?
It doesn’t feel like a typical doctor’s office. We put a great deal of effort into creating a positive, welcoming experience where patients never feel rushed. We encourage questions and want patients to feel comfortable reaching out if they need anything. We’ve worked hard to eliminate many of the unpleasant aspects of traditional orthodontics. For example, no gag-inducing impressions, no separators, no headgear, no bands wedged between molars, and no hidden costs. It’s the kind of experience we all wish we had growing up.
What’s one thing you always try to do to make patients feel comfortable?
It’s all about eliminating surprises and using the “tell, show, do” method. We begin by explaining what we’re going to do, then use a visual aid to demonstrate it, and finally proceed with treatment. Many patients, especially children, come in feeling anxious due to past medical or dental experiences. However, after one or two visits, they typically realize that our appointments are quick, easy, and comfortable.
What’s the most rewarding moment you’ve had with a patient?
I once treated a patient with a sensory disorder who was extremely fearful of orthodontic care. She had a severe malocclusion (bad bite) that required more than simple braces. Initially, treatment was challenging, but over time she began to trust me, eventually even giving me a cute note and showing me some of her favorite toys. Her treatment was very successful, and I felt incredibly grateful that we were able to help her overcome her fears and achieve a great outcome.

How much has orthodontics changed during your career?
Orthodontics has evolved significantly. During my residency, we were still using headgear and placing uncomfortable bands around molars. Today, everything in our practice is digital—x-rays, scans, and even 3D printing. We now bond brackets or clear attachments directly to each tooth, which improves hygiene and eliminates the need for bands and separators. These advancements have greatly improved both the patient experience and treatment outcomes.
