Adults aren't the only ones looking for a convenient option for orthodontic treatment. Today, teenagers are asking for options that will give them the smile of their dreams without the inconvenience of braces. For the compliant and dedicated teens, Invisalign may be right choice.
Eat What You Want During Treatment
Just remember to brush and floss! With traditional braces, there is a long list of foods that our patients can't eat. That's because certain foods will knock the brackets off or stick to the braces causing cavities or enamel scarring. With Invisalign® clear aligners, we encourage our patients to take the plastic trays out each time they eat and brush so that they can keep their teeth healthy throughout treatment. While eating sugary foods can still cause cavities, studies have shown that plaque retention during orthodontic treatment is significantly less with clear aligners than traditional braces.
How Does It Work?
Invisalign® is a series of clear plastic trays that the patient will wear for one week at a time, on average. When a new set of trays is placed in the mouth, it will push the teeth in small increments until the desired tooth position has been reached. Dr. Bloom likes to compare clear aligners to an animated cartoon, drawn one frame at a time. Each plastic tray represents one frame of the animation, which move the teeth in a very controlled and prescribed way.
