How Does It Work?

Invisalign® is a series of clear plastic trays that the patient will wear for one week at a time, on average. When a new set of trays is placed in the mouth, it will push the teeth in small increments until the desired tooth position has been reached. Dr. Bloom likes to compare clear aligners to an animated cartoon, drawn one frame at a time. Each plastic tray represents one frame of the animation, which move the teeth in a very controlled and prescribed way. This increased degree of control has been shown to reduce overall treatment time for some patients. Invisalign has made such a difference on so many lives that even Forbes magazine has stated that, "the results tend to be worth the investment."

Invisalign® Won’t Slow You Down

We know you’re busy - school, work, pickups, drop-offs, music lessons, sports and it’s only Monday! For patients with a full schedule the last thing they want is to add a trip to the orthodontist. Since there are no wires to adjust, Invisalign requires fewer in-office appointments which means more time for you do the things you need to do. Convenience not just for adults but Teen Invisalign patients too!

The Invisalign® Process

"I'm ready to change my smile but don't know how to get started. What is the Invisalign process like?"

Step 1: Come in for your complimentary consultation.

Invisalign clear aligners are custom-made for your mouth and for your unique orthodontic needs. The first step is to schedule a complimentary exam with us to get an iTero 3D scan of your teeth, any necessary x-rays, and check your overall dental health. It is essential that Dr. Bloom makes sure you do not have any underlying dental conditions that could worsen with orthodontic treatment. He will then discuss his findings with you and whether or not you are a good candidate for clear Invisalign® treatment.

Step 2:  Dr. Bloom will create a digital treatment plan just for you.

After uploading your iTero 3D scan to the Invisalign® portal, Dr. Bloom will create a customized treatment plan using the Invisalign software. This plan will include any attachments you may need to give the aligners optimal control for the planned movements. The plan is the most crucial part of the process and requires extensive training and experience to produce an efficient treatment sequence.

Step 3: The manufacturing process

After Dr. Bloom finalizes your custom Invisalign plan, the aligners are then manufactured by Invisalign at one of their facilities using 3D printing technology and their proprietary SmartTrack™ material. The aligners are then packaged and mail to our office. The entire manufacturing process takes about 2 weeks.

Step 4: Receive your first series of aligners

During your first treatment appointment, Dr. Bloom and his outstanding team will use a customized template to place any attachments you may need during treatment. These attachments are made of a tooth-colored composite that is practically invisible to others but will provide the grip Dr. Bloom needs to correctly move your teeth. After the attachments are placed, you will receive your first series of aligners and instructions will be given on how properly clean and care for them so they stay clear and fresh. It is necessary to wear your Invisalign aligners at least 20 hours per day to ensure the planned tooth movements are expressed as anticipated.

Step 5: The refinement stage

Once you finish wearing all the aligners Dr. Bloom has prescribed for you, chances are there are still a few finishing touches that need to be made before treatment is completed. These final movements include improving your bite, correcting small rotations in your teeth or closing small spaces. We often refer to this step as the refinement phase of treatment. To complete a refinement, a new 3D scan is taken of your teeth and an updated treatment plan is completed in the software. While these new aligners are being manufactured, Dr. Bloom will ask you to wear your last set of aligners as temporary retainers until the new aligners arrive in the office.

Step 6: Finishing treatment and retainers

Now that you have a gorgeous new smile, its time to show it off to the world! But first we need to remove those tooth-colored attachments on your teeth and polish your teeth. This is simply done with a special dental bur that will clean the composite off without damaging the enamel. Then, a final 3D scan of your teeth will be taken so that your retainer models can be printed on our in-house 3D printer and durable retainers can be made. These retainers will ensure that your teeth stay in place for as long as you wear them.

Now, snap a selfie and show off that amazing new smile with everyone you know!
