What is Board Certification?

The Full Story

All orthodontists are dentists, but not all dentists are orthodontists. That is likely why you are researching orthodontists right now -– you want the best treatment from the hands of a highly qualified specialist. However, to take it one step further, while all orthodontists have completed 2-3 years of additional specialized training, not all orthodontists are board certified. Many people are surprised to learn that board certification is an optional examination process that only ~1/2 of orthodontists complete. The examination process requires rigorous preparation before completing a lengthy written exam and a clinical exam. Completion of the exam allows the orthodontist to demonstrate that he/she strives for the highest level of mastery in growth/development and contemporary orthodontic practices. Dr. Bloom is proud to be a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists and call himself a board-certified orthodontist.
